IRS admits targeting conservatives for tax scrutiny in 2012 election

.

The Internal Revenue Service on Friday apologized for targeting groups with “tea party” or “patriot” in their names, confirming long-standing accusations by some conservatives that their applications for tax-exempt status were being improperly delayed and scrutinized.

.

Lois G. Lerner, the IRS official who oversees tax-exempt groups, said the “absolutely inappropriate” actions by “front-line people” were not driven by partisan motives.

.

Rather, Lerner said, they were a misguided effort to come up with an efficient means of dealing with a flood of applications from organizations seeking tax-exempt status between 2010 and 2012.

.

The media said the democrat ground game was superior . that’s bs. now we know that ... (IRS) rigged the election for Obama and democrats by shutting down the conservative groups.

Rigged? Hardly, the republicans had no trouble raising money. ALSO, if these groups that applied for status were TRUELY what they claimed to be(non-political) the amount of money going to political campaigns should be nothing to next to nothing. The tax exempt status is for social organizations , not for political organizations. I hope they do dig deep in there so they can show how “corrupt” these organizations that applied for tax exempt status really are. That is the funny part of this.

Read the news reports. Issa is a nut. He has denied anyone from testifying who goes against what he wants them to say. Who is in denial????

You don’t see that there’s an IRS scandal? You don’t see that the IRS targeting a group of people because of their political leanings is a bad thing?

I see people abusing the tax exempt status for political purpose. I hope they get caught.

If Barney was in charge, he would have assigned a ticket number based on the date and time the IRS received the application. Then everyone would have waited in that time line as each examiner investigated the applicants. It’s really the only fair way to have done it. Nobody, of any political persuasion would have tried to get past the Republican appointed IRS administrators to jump the line. There would have been no complaints.
    .
That, of course, ignores that organizations don’t have to apply to the IRS to be such a corporation if all you want to do is to create political propaganda against opponents. If that were true, Barney could apply for tax-exempt status to make his time worthwhile on this forum. He calls it educational.

I see you’re still stuck on this election thing. Nowhere in the WP article was the 2012 election mentioned. I don’t dispute the fact that conservative organizations were excessively scrutinized, the IRS has said as much. It is a h u g e s t r e t c h to equate that to rigging the general election. You’re the only one making that leap. Please explain how it would be possible for the outcome of the election to be effected by the actions taken by the IRS. If it was possible, the next step would be to gather evidence to prove your allegation. Thirdly, the evidence must be presented to your audience. Until then, your claim is entirely without merit. The fact that your President is not a rich white Mormon irritates you, doesn’t it? That’s not justification for spreading falsehoods about how your President was elected. It just means that you were in the minority. How does it feel being in a minority class?

Barney’s S T R E T C H is that somehow the billionaires Koch and Adelson nor any other organization wouldn’t have been able to dump money into dirty campaign ads for the already approved Citizens United and other political contribution schemes until the IRS approved them for a tax deduction the year later.
      .
That seems to be in the DNA of the GOP, as they similarly propose that working poor making $18,000 would be suddenly be able to afford $14,000 a year family insurance plans if they could get a voucher from tax deduction from their 15% tax rate ($2500) based on their salaries the year before.
